Jules opened Face of Jules in Hollywood in 2017. Before that she spent years working alongside dermatologists and physicians in medical skincare settings, which is where the scar work started and where she learned to read skin structure rather than guess at it.
She has performed an estimated 4,000 to 5,000 microchanneling treatments. She is also a DMK paramedically trained esthetician, which is not a weekend certificate: it requires extended training and formal clearance before you are permitted to perform treatments like the DMK Alkaline Wash at all. That clearance is the reason we can take on scarring that most skincare studios have to turn away.
What she will not do is oversell you. If your scarring is beyond what we can improve, you will hear that at the consultation, and you will hear where to go instead.
We are a corrective skincare clinic, not a medical practice, and the difference matters when you are dealing with scar tissue.
What that means in practice: we work on the appearance and texture of scarring using collagen stimulation, enzyme therapy and resurfacing. We do not use lasers. Lasers sit outside an esthetician’s scope in California, so nobody here will ever suggest one, sell you one, or pretend our work is the same thing.
That is not a limitation we apologize for. It is most of the reason people come to us.
There is a real trade-off and you should understand it before you book. A course of work with us takes longer than an aggressive laser resurfacing. Six sessions where a laser might take one or two. In exchange you avoid the two things that go wrong most often with the aggressive route: trauma to the skin barrier, and pigmentation damage that can outlast the scar you were trying to treat. It is a slower, less extreme, less invasive approach, and for most people it is the right one.
For some people it is not. If your scarring is severe enough that we would be looking at a year or two of monthly work, we will tell you so plainly:

A C-section scar sits low across the abdomen and behaves differently from acne scarring. It can settle flat, raised or slightly indented, and it often holds a different tone from the skin around it long after it has closed.

We work on the appearance of the scar itself and on the texture and tone of the skin around it, which is usually what makes it read as obvious in the mirror. The scar has to be fully closed and healed before we start. If you are unsure whether yours is ready, send a photo first.
An older scar is not a lost cause. We regularly work on scars that are years old.

Augmentation scars are one of the things we are asked about most and one of the things we are best at. Some settle into a fine, quiet line. Others thicken into a raised, firm band of tissue sitting under the skin, the kind clients describe as a cord or a sausage link.
That thickened kind is where the DMK Alkaline Wash earns its reputation. It is an advanced treatment that requires DMK paramedical training and formal clearance before an esthetician is permitted to perform it, which is why you will not find it at most studios. Jules has had, in her words, “great success with it.”
The same approach applies to other closed, healed surgical scars, and to shingles scarring once it has fully resolved.
DMK Alkaline Wash, face and body, long series, six months minimum
A keloid is a scar that keeps building past the edge of the original wound: raised, firm, often darker or redder than the skin around it. Hypertrophic scars behave similarly but stay within the original boundary. Both are the opposite problem from an acne scar. Too much collagen rather than too little.
Keloids are more common on deeper skin tones and they are honestly difficult.
We will tell you at the consultation whether yours is something we can improve or whether you would be better served by a dermatologist or plastic surgeon. That answer costs you nothing and you are under no obligation to book anything.
Barrier repair, pigment work and DMK Enzyme Therapy, face and body
This is quiet, steady work for us, and it is worth saying out loud.
“Clients come in badly burned from a laser. A CO2 laser is probably the most common, as well as laser hair removal, or even a chemical peel gone wrong that left an acid burn or hyperpigmentation. Anytime the skin is really traumatized, especially if someone has a darker skin tone, their skin can be very reactive. Time and time again, we are constantly fixing mistakes that other people have caused.”
If a treatment somewhere else left you with patchy tone, a burn mark, or pigment that has not settled in months, that is something we work on regularly. Bring or send whatever aftercare instructions you were given, if you still have them.
ProCell Microchanneling, abdomen, hips, thighs, chest and arms
Stretch marks are a form of scarring and they respond. They turn up after pregnancy, after weight change and after growth spurts, and we see real progress on them. This is one of the things we are best at that people least expect a skincare clinic to offer.

If your skin is a deeper Fitzpatrick type, this section matters more than anything else on this page.
Aggressive treatment on skin that has not been prepared can go two ways, and both are hard to undo. Hypopigmentation, where the treated area loses its melanin and turns pale, and as Jules puts it, “once the melanin is gone, it’s very difficult to get it back.” Or hyperpigmentation, where the skin comes back patchy, burned looking, or marked with melasma-like discoloration.
The protection is preparation, not luck. Before certain peels we condition the skin with vitamin A, so the cellular turnover rate is already raised and the skin is not shocked when the treatment happens. Afterwards we use a melanin inhibitor, plus exosomes, growth factors and lipids to support the barrier while it recovers.
Wherever you end up going, ask whoever is treating you what their prep protocol is. If they do not have one, keep looking.
This is the first real decision and it is the one people get wrong on their own, because the treatment depends entirely on what kind of scarring you actually have. Our job at the consultation is to narrow it to one path rather than sell you all of them.
An advanced enzyme treatment for the most stubborn scar tissue, and the one that requires paramedical training to perform. Best for raised and thickened scarring: keloids, hypertrophic scars, augmentation scars and aggressive textural scarring. Longest commitment, strongest results on the hardest cases.

Resurfacing work for pigment rather than structure. Best for PIH, PIE and discoloration around a scar rather than the scar itself. Several options at different depths, chosen to suit your skin tone and prep history.
A liquid microneedling treatment for milder texture and tone. Good for scarring, though not in the same weight class as the two above.
pigment goes to peels, indented texture goes to microchanneling, raised and thickened tissue goes to the Alkaline Wash. Most people need a combination, which is why the plan is built at the consultation instead of picked off a menu. That customization is the whole job.
Individual treatments run from $250 to $600 depending on which one and how long it takes. A dermatologist or plastic surgeon will typically quote between $800 and $3,000 for a single laser resurfacing session in Los Angeles.

That gap is the question we get asked most directly:
“I could go and get a laser for $3,000, $4,000 or $5,000. Why would it be wise for me to receive facials at $250 or $300 a pop, with very little guarantee that they’re going to help?”
It is a fair question and the honest answer has two halves. Yes, a laser can move faster on severe structural scarring. And yes, invasive treatment carries a real risk of leaving you worse off than you started, which we see in this clinic constantly.
This sets how many sessions you need, and it is the single biggest factor.
Aggressive scarring takes six months at a bare minimum, coming in once a month. One session will not do it, and we would rather say that now than take your money for it.

This is the part people underestimate. Roughly 80 percent of how your skin looks comes from your home care, and a proper routine runs a few hundred dollars. If you are not using what you need daily, you are throwing away most of your chance at a result before you walk through the door.
Post-cystic-acne texture.
Once aggressive cystic acne is cleared, many people are left with indented, divot-like texture where the worst breakouts were. This is some of our most frequent scarring work and some of the most rewarding.
Augmentation keloids.
The raised, cord-like scarring that can develop after breast augmentation, worked with the DMK Alkaline Wash. This is the result Jules is proudest of and the one she gets asked for by name.

We are based in Hollywood at 717 N Cahuenga Blvd, Los Angeles CA 90038, and we serve clients from across Los Angeles.
There is no single neighborhood our scarring clients come from. They drive in from all over the city, and some fly in, which is largely down to the Alkaline Wash. Paramedical DMK clearance is not common, and people travel for it.
Very often it is a mark rather than a scar, which is the better answer to get. Flat brown or red discoloration left after a breakout or an injury is pigment, not structural damage, and it responds well to peel work. True scarring means the skin surface itself has changed, either indented or raised. You can usually tell by feel as much as by sight. We will identify it precisely at the consultation.
No. We regularly work on scarring that is years or decades old. What matters is that the wound is fully closed and healed rather than how long ago it happened. An old C-section or surgical scar is very normal work for us.
For aggressive scarring, plan on six sessions across six months at a minimum, roughly one a month. Milder pigment work can take fewer. You will get a real number at the consultation rather than a guess, and if the honest number is more than you want to commit to, we will say so.
This is exactly the right question to ask, and asking it of everyone you consider is worth doing. Deeper Fitzpatrick types carry a genuine risk of hypo- and hyperpigmentation from aggressive treatment on unprepared skin. We condition the skin with vitamin A before certain peels and use melanin inhibitors and barrier support afterwards. Some of our treatments suit any skin color with no advance prep, and some need two weeks of preparation first. We will tell you which applies to you.
Usually, yes. Repairing skin after a CO2 laser, laser hair removal or a peel that went wrong is steady work here. Bring any aftercare instructions you were given, and give the skin time to settle before starting anything new.
Home care is roughly 80 percent of your result and it is not optional. Expect to spend a few hundred dollars on a proper routine and to use it daily. Without it you are giving up most of the improvement before you start, and we would rather work with people who are prepared to do that part.
