Dry & Dull Skin Treatments in Los Angeles

When your skin looks flat, tired, and thirsty, the fix is rarely one more moisturizer. At Face of Jules in Hollywood, dry and dull skin is one of the things we correct most, with treatments matched to what your skin is actually missing: oil, water, or a fresh surface. Skin that felt rough and looked lifeless in the morning can look soft, plump, and lit from within by the time you leave.

Meet the esthetician behind your treatment

Jules Parle is a licensed esthetician and the founder of Face of Jules, with more than 16 years of corrective skincare experience. She trained alongside dermatologists and physicians before opening the clinic in 2017, which has grown from a single treatment room to a three-story Hollywood studio that has cared for more than 10,000 clients. She is CIDESCO certified, HydraFacial and DermaplanePro trained, and a specialist and trainer in Ionic Light technology.

Her approach is the reason this page exists: “We don’t do one-size-fits-all. Every treatment starts with a thorough skin analysis.” Dry, dehydrated, and dull skin all look similar in the mirror and need very different care, so the work starts with reading your skin correctly, then choosing the treatment that fits it.

KNOW YOUR SKIN

Dry, Dehydrated, or Just Dull? They Are Not The Same Thing

Most people use these words to mean the same thing. Your skin does not. Getting the difference right is what separates a treatment that works from one that makes things worse.

Dry skin

Dry skin is a skin type that is short on oil. It tends to feel tight and rough, flakes or peels, and often has a compromised barrier, so the surface looks uneven. Dry skin wants lipids and oil put back, plus barrier support.

Dehydrated skin

Dehydrated skin is a condition, not a type, and it is short on water. Any skin can be dehydrated, even oily skin. It reads as tight, and fine lines and crepiness look more obvious than they should, the way skin looks papery when it is thirsty. A quick tell: pinch the skin between the brows, where the "11" lines sit. If it is slow to bounce back, water is what is missing. Dehydrated skin wants water-binding hydration (hyaluronic acid) and barrier support, not just a heavier cream.

Dull skin

Dullness is almost always a surface problem: layers of dead skin sitting on top. Your skin renews itself roughly every 30 days, but when that turnover slows, or you have been overworking it, the old cells pile up and scatter the light so skin looks flat instead of luminous. Clear that buildup gently and healthy, reflective skin comes right back.

What causes it: a lot of dehydration and dullness comes from doing too much, not too little. Overusing active ingredients, scrubs, and retinol strips the skin. So does aging, weather, and long hot showers. And in Los Angeles specifically, the environment works against you: summer sun and pollution, the dry heat if you live over the hill in the Valley, and the air conditioning in every office building all pull water out of your skin. Environmental water loss is well documented, which is why local skin needs deliberate hydration, not just more product.

One honest note that saves people money: about 80 percent of how your skin looks comes from what you do at home. Professional treatments do in one visit what would take you months, but they work best paired with a simple, consistent routine. Part of every treatment here is telling you exactly what to change.

FIND YOUR RIGHT TREATMENT

Which treatment is right for your skin

The point of the menu below is not to sell you the strongest thing on it. It is to match the treatment to what your skin is missing, and sometimes to talk you out of what you came in asking for. Here is how we steer it.

If your skin is dry, oil-deficient, inflamed, or patchy, the go-to is DMK Enzyme Therapy. It floods the skin with moisture, works against transepidermal water loss (the water your skin is quietly leaking), and helps the barrier heal and smooth out.

If your skin is dull from buildup, a wet form of microdermabrasion is the answer: DiamondGlow or HydraFacial MD. Both lift away a layer of dead surface skin and channel a barrier-supporting serum in at the same time, so you exfoliate and hydrate in one step. These are two of the best options for skin that is dull, dry, and flaky.

If your skin looks tired, depleted, and older than it should because it is so dry, medical-grade Microcurrent can lift and sculpt and bring it back to life. If the concern is crepey, prematurely lined skin, the Factor Five peel resurfaces while it hydrates.

And one steering call worth stating plainly: A lot of people come in asking to “peel their dry skin off” with a strong chemical peel. On compromised skin, that is gasoline on a fire. If your barrier is already stressed, the last thing it needs is an aggressive TCA peel. A gentler lactic option may help, or the right move may be to calm and rebuild first. The honest answer to “will this help, or do I even need it?” is the whole reason to start with an analysis.

TREATMENT PRICING

What treatments cost and why

Prices here run from $125 for a Glow & Go up to $600 for microchanneling with exosomes, with most dry and dull skin treatments landing in the $250 to $350 range. The consultation is $200 and credits back toward a same-day treatment.

What drives the price is what is actually going into the treatment. A real HydraFacial uses serums and technology that cost a great deal, which is why you will see it done elsewhere for a fraction of the price. Those are not the same treatment. The same is true of professional peels. You are paying for the real thing, done by a licensed esthetician who is watching how your skin responds and adjusting as she goes. Cheaper is easy to find. Corrective, lasting results are not.

Real results

Real results

Side-by-side of a woman's face showing acne before and clear skin after treatment in Los Angeles, both wearing a white headband.

A client came in with a neck covered in deep lines, something she and her mother had both dealt with, that made her look decades older than she was even though the rest of her skin looked great. A course of Factor Five peels brought her neck back to life. The result looked like it took 20 years off, and she has come back every month or two since.

Another client arrived with skin that was red, inflamed, and depleted. One to two sessions of medical-grade microcurrent lifted and sculpted it and changed how her skin looked and felt. Dry, depleted skin can look old, and giving it what it actually needs can look like turning back the clock.

Sometimes what people read as Pigmentation is really just layers of dead skin. Treat the dullness, and the “pigment” visibly improves. And more than once, someone convinced they simply looked old turned out to be badly dehydrated. The moment their skin got what it needed, it looked like different skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

I drink plenty of water, so why does my skin still look dehydrated?

Because dehydrated skin is usually about water loss at the surface, not how much you drink. When the barrier is compromised, water evaporates out faster than you can replace it from the inside, and no amount of water alone fixes that. The answer is topical, water-binding hydration like hyaluronic acid plus barrier repair, which is exactly what a hydrating treatment delivers.

If your skin is dehydrated, it needs water bound into it and a repaired barrier, not just more oil on top. If it is genuinely dry, it needs lipids and oil. Piling on heavy cream without addressing which one you are short on is why the moisturizer feels like it is not working. A quick analysis tells us which it is.
Most clients do best on a monthly rhythm, timed to your skin’s roughly 30-day renewal cycle, then space it out as your skin stabilizes. We will give you a realistic cadence at your first visit, along with the home routine that carries most of the result between treatments.
Usually the same day. Dull, dehydrated skin often responds fast, which is why people are surprised how much brighter and plumper it looks right after a treatment. Deeper, lasting change comes from a short series plus consistent home care.
Often it is the wrong move. If your barrier is already compromised, an aggressive peel can make things worse, not better. We may use a gentler option or calm and rebuild the skin first. That judgment call is exactly what the analysis is for, and we will tell you honestly if you do not need the strong treatment you came in asking for.
Yes. We work with sensitive and reactive skin regularly, including plant-based options, and we build up gently rather than pushing aggressive treatments on skin that cannot tolerate them yet. If your skin is severely compromised, we will tell you and start by calming it
